Judge Rules Defendant Was Not Properly Informed of Charge
In a dramatic turn of events, the manslaughter trial of actor Alec Baldwin has been abruptly halted due to a procedural error. The judge overseeing the case dismissed the charges on Friday after ruling that the defendant had not been properly informed of the specific charge against him.
The trial stemmed from the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film "Rust" in 2021. Baldwin, who was holding the gun that fired the fatal shot, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in October 2022.
However, the judge found that the charging document failed to provide Baldwin with sufficient notice of the specific manner in which he was alleged to have acted recklessly.
