UEFA Youth League: Feyenoord Defeat Bayer Leverkusen To Book Quarterfinal Spot
Feyenoord's youngsters stunned their Bayer Leverkusen counterparts on Wednesday, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Youth League.
Simon Rolfes' Leverkusen side were left to rue missed opportunities as Feyenoord's clinical finishing proved decisive.
The Dutch side took the lead in the 18th minute when Emanuel Emegha tapped home after a low cross from Mats Kohlert. Leverkusen responded well and equalized just seven minutes later, as David Agbontohoma headed in from a corner. However, Feyenoord restored their advantage shortly before halftime when Danticolai Joao finished off a flowing move.
The second half saw Leverkusen push for an equalizer, but Feyenoord's defense held firm. The Dutch side then extended their lead in the 75th minute, with Mohamed Taabouni scoring from close range. Leverkusen pulled one back through Agbontohoma in the 82nd minute, but Feyenoord held on to secure a famous victory.
Feyenoord will now face either Real Madrid or Manchester United in the quarterfinals, while Leverkusen's European campaign comes to an end.
