Freedom To Vote Act Sets Basic National Standards For Voting

Freedom to Vote Act sets basic national standards for voting

Ensures all Americans can cast ballots in the way that works best for them

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) joined Senate and House colleagues to introduce the Freedom to Vote Act, landmark legislation to strengthen our democracy and protect the freedom to vote for all Americans.

The Freedom to Vote Act will set basic national standards to make sure all Americans can cast their ballots in the way that works best for them, whether that’s by mail, in person on Election Day, or during early voting. The bill will also ensure that every eligible American is automatically registered to vote and that voters have the information they need to make informed choices at the ballot box.

In 2021, Klobuchar introduced the Freedom to Vote Act, which included resources to recruit and train poll workers and ensure states have the resources they need to administer elections effectively and securely. This bill addresses voter registration and voting access, election integrity and security, redistricting, and campaign finance.

“The freedom to vote is fundamental to all of our freedoms, and as we continue to see unprecedented attacks on our democracy in states across the country, we must act to protect this sacred right,” said Klobuchar.

Klobuchar has been a leading voice in the fight to protect voting rights. She has introduced legislation to expand automatic voter registration, make Election Day a national holiday, and restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated Americans. She is also a cosponsor of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The Freedom to Vote Act is a comprehensive piece of legislation that will protect the freedom to vote for all Americans. It is a critical step towards strengthening our democracy and ensuring that every eligible American has a voice in our government.
